Endangered Animal Researchers

Last year I blogged about our Endangered Animal Research projects.  This year, our school required us to write research reports again.  Fortunately, we were able to add some real life observations to our reports.  How you ask?  With a field trip to the Rosamond Gifford in Syracuse!

Students put on their "researcher hats" and walked around recording real world observations of the animals they had been researching.  They took notice of the habitat that the zoo had created for their animal of choice, what the animal was being fed, and how the animal was behaving.  The zoo did a wonderful job of posting fascinating facts around as well for students to read.

We have had an extremely busy week full of Donors Choose packages, field trips, science review, and the NYS Science Test.

1.  We had another project funded through Donors Choose.  We received some fun math manipulatives from Lakeshore Learning.  I can't wait to test these out with small groups during math center rotations.

2.  We visited the Apple Store for a FREE field trip.  We used a program called Garage Band on iPads to compose music.

3.  Apple provided each child with an awesome t-shirt and certificate.

4.  Students also received really cool flashdrive bracelets from Apple containing the files from their music compositions.  When we returned to school we had fun sharing the songs we had created.

5.  After many science lessons, experiments, read alouds, and fun it was finally time to show what we know.  After Thursday, our performance part of our NYS Science Test was officially OVER!  The written part is still a week and a half away but getting part 1 done is a huge relief.

Big News and Giveaway!

Just in time for the 5 for Friday link-up I can finally share my big news!  I'm PREGNANT!!!!

 

 

Yippee....happy dance!

 

I've been going crazy keeping it a secret for the last 3 1/2 months and am so excited to finally have shared the good news with my students and now with you!

 

My due date is:  November 11th, 2013!  However, I will probubaly have the baby a little earlier.  Rumor on the street is that they usually induce us diabetics if we get to the 38th or 39th week.  With this being my first child I am curious, nervous, and extremely excited to see how it goes.

 

In class, I revealed my secret message with a quick game of phone tag.  It was a great way to see each students face light up as they found out one by one.

Afterwards I passed out little bottle shaped goodie bags for each student containing candy and a little baby bracelet momento.

We shared some cookie cake and juice, had a few laughs, and ended the day with some outside recess.
